Free Exam Recording at Bothners for Trinity College London Students

Are you a Trinity College music student, looking to submit your exam performance digitally, but lack the facilities to record/film at home? Bothners has you covered!

Last year we recorded just over 100 student performances and we’re excited to offer the service again this year!

Our goal is simple:
– To create a welcoming atmosphere where students can feel relaxed and comfortable,
– To make high quality equipment available to students to best capture their performance, and
– To enable teachers and students to focus on the important stuff – the music!

Alright. Let’s get down to it.

Service Details

The recording service is available Mon-Fri from 10:00-17:00, from 1 September – 18 November 2022,
at the following Bothners branches: Plumstead, Table View, Stellenbosch, Somerset West, West Rand and Centurion.

We’ll provide all the necessary recording equipment: camera, microphone, music stand, amplifiers, monitor speakers, PA etc. All students have to bring is their instrument. Also, some of our branches will have instruments available for students to use (acoustic drums & digital pianos with weighted keys).

Students are encouraged to use their own instruments for the exams. All branches, however, will have a guitar amplifier, bass amplifier and dynamic microphone available for students to use.
The following additional instruments are available to students at the following locations:

General Information for Teachers

The recording rooms are modest, but the recording equipment is top notch! Students are welcome to stop by the shop to check out the room if some familiarity with the venue will help them feel more comfortable on performance day.

We recommend that teachers attend the recording session, but it’s not a requirement.
We’ve held training sessions for our staff about the TCL recording guidelines and have run test recordings at all stores. That being said, please help your students familiarise themselves with these guidelines. Ultimately it’sthe teacher/students responsibility to ensure that the recording meets TCL’s exam requirements.

At the start of the recording session, we’ll run a few demo recordings to balance audio levels and check the camera angle. The student/teacher will have the opportunity to review the test recording.

If everyone’s happy, the exam recording can begin. Following the performance, the video recording will be transferred to our computer for storage and copied to the student’s flash drive.

Making a Booking

To make a booking, please follow these simple steps:

I. Complete the registration form on behalf of your students
II. Submit the form to relevant your TCL regional representative (Elnari or Gill).
III. They will liaise with us, and we’ll confirm the requested date and time.
IV. That’s it! All that’s left is for students to follow the ‘on the day’ guidelines.
