As part of our May Ministry Month we at Paul Bothner Music are running a series of workshops to help empower our friends in the church community.
On Saturday the 2nd of May, Eileen Butler Pilot held a workshop at Paul Bothner Music in Plumstead. Eileen was previously the vocal coach on the Coca Cola Popstars series, as well as various other reality shows in South Africa, Zambia, Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania.
Ann Wilson (SA’s got talent finalist)Eileen covered various topics, from specific exercises to strengthen and increase your vocal range to examples in microphone technique and group harmony singing. The audience was captivated throughout, and when Eileen had finished, the crowd didn’t want her to stop.
The workshop was well attended, with notable guests like 85 year old Ann Wilson (SA’s got talent finalist) and SA icon Dennis East singing.
The audience was captivated throughout On Tuesday the 5th of May, Francois Du Plessis held a workshop at our DV Village Bloemfontein branch. The workshop how was on how to utilize the full potential of the 3 M’s: Mixer, Monitors, and Microphones in your Church’s sound system.
Francois Du PlessisFrancois introduced himself and explained where he’d been and his experience in the live sound engineering field. Various microphone choices and techniques were explained. He went through mixer functions, concentrating mainly on the Gain stage and its effect, as well as offering mixing tips relative to church sound. Francois also stressed the importance of getting the stage monitoring right.
He also explained how to set up and balance the monitor mix, pointed out common mistakes and shared fixes for problems like feedback and poor acoustics. He then went on to stress the difference between Equalizing monitors vs the front of house system.
All in all it was an informative session which was well received by those present.
