The UKZN School of Arts will be hosting a VOCAL JAZZ WORKSHOP FOR MUSIC TEACHERS ON Monday 28th September 2015.

Presented by the UKZN School of Arts (Music) and facilitated by Ms Amanda Tiffin, from UCT, the workshop will focus on:

TEACHING VOCAL JAZZ – GETTING STARTED:
Introducing improvisation to music learners can be daunting for teachers whose training has been largely in Western Classical music, but it needn’t be.

This workshop will feature
• Simple, fun and interactive ways to start your students on the rewarding journey to improvising with confidence and freedom.
• Non-style specific improvisation exercises and concepts (no prior jazz knowledge necessary)
• Circle Improvisation games for groups
• Exercises for the individual lesson
• An introduction to learning aids available as apps on tablet or smart phones.
• Further resources for teachers who are interested in furthering their knowledge of jazz theory and improvisation
