Jazz is a genre of music that everyone knows, love it or hate it, you should learn some of the history of this iconic style of music.
From it’s routes in Africa, to the New Orleans music melting pot, jazz has taken many turns to get to where it is today. The first from of Jazz as we know it was Dixie Land Jazz, which was a mixture of Blues, Spiritual music and various European music. The wide mix of music styles caught everyone’s attention and their imagination.
Thanks to the likes of Scott Joplin, The King of Ragtime, Pianist Jelly Roll Mortin and composer WC Handy jazz grew and began to move north. This gave rise to the greats like Louis Armstrong and the cornet player, Bix Beiderbecke.
