The 5th Generation of the RØDE NT1 has arrived!

At first glance, the newest generation of Rode’s most iconic microphone looks like more of the same… but under the hood, it’s everything but that. Rode have fused the classic sound signature and look of the iconic NT1 with cutting-edge, next-generation technology. And that is no overstatement.

The headline is their revolutionary (patent-pending) Dual Connect output, offering both XLR and USB connectivity, and a world-first “unclippable” 32-bit float digital output, and an unfathomably low 4dBA noise level, making this potentially the easiest to use, most versatile mic in the world.

Let’s take a bit of a dive into the mic to understand just what makes it so great.

What Makes it Great?

It's an NT1.

At its core, this is the tried-and-true Rode NT1 that has been a recording studio staple since its release in 1991. As far as the sound of the mic itself, Rode have taken a “if it’s not broken, don’t fix it” approach, and rather opted to build upon this foundation with new state-of-the-art features and tech.

It's quiet... Really quiet.

One of the major updates that has been brought to the NT1 5th Gen is the noise level. It delivers the same warm, silky character, and high SPL handling capability that the original is revered for, with improved circuitry for even lower self-noise – an astonishingly low 4dBA, which quite literally makes it the world’s quietest studio condenser microphone.

It's "Unclippable".

Another world-first from the NT1 5th Gen is a 32-bit float digital output – a revolutionary recording format that allows you to record everything from a whisper to a scream, the softest guitar to the loudest drummer without having to worry about setting your gain. Simply adjust your audio after recording and all the dynamics of your performance will be maintained, with zero risk of clipping or distortion. Rode have made it functionally impossible to to mess up a recording and miss a performance. Gamechanger.

State-of-the-art on-board DSP.

Driven by the NT1 5th Generation’s powerful on-board DSP, you can craft your sound with advanced APHEX audio processing. Add compression, a high-pass filter, noise gate, and the legendary APHEX Aural Exciter and Big Bottom to your audio with ease using the free RØDE Connect and RØDE Central companion apps.

Everything you need, in one box.

The NT1 5th Generation comes with everything you need to start recording in the box, including XLR and USB cables, and a studio-grade shock mount and pop filter
