More About The School

Learn to conquer the stage at the acclaimed international performance-based music school that’s rocked its way onto South African shores for the first time
“We believe that absolutely any of our students can learn to play music comfortably on stage within months,” says Leigh Spaun, who, together with her brother, Keith Taeuber, is responsible for bringing renowned music education brand School of Rock to Cape Town’s shores. While it strikes me as quite a bold statement to make, Leigh casually explains to me that the institution differs from many other teaching offerings in that it focuses first and foremost on spreading a love for performing, and the passion it instils makes learning incredibly easy.
School of Rock, which is not to be confused with the blockbuster of the same name, is an international music school that was founded in 1998 in the Unites States by Paul Green and has since grown to include over 180 branches spread across eight countries worldwide. And now, thanks to this brother-and-sister duo, the distinguished institute has landed in the suburb of Claremont (it’s the first branch to open in Africa) to, as the school’s slogan goes, “inspire the [local] world to rock on stage and in life.”

The Bill: The Rookies programme costs R855p/p per month, the Rock 101 course costs R1710p/p per month, the core Performance Programme is priced at R2565p/p per month and the Adult Performance Programme is set at R1 140p/p per month. All prices are VAT inclusive. For a detailed look at what each programme includes, check out our break-down of the School of Rock music school classes.
