Compression – The Ins & Outs

Musician, DJ, journalist, lecturer, manager, and film industry player Aidan Harper will explore studio compression.
This effect is often misunderstood and under-utilized in-studio. He’s worked with bands such as Springbok Nude Girls, Shadowclub, Zebra & Giraffe, Funmongers, Jac Sharp, The Awakening, and many more. His TV production work includes the likes of Going Nowhere Slowly, Bling, Nightlife, Heita, Hectic Nine-9, Fear Factor, Cooked, as well as many film productions, documentaries, and commercials. He also lectures on the various aspects of the music and film industry and has been invited to speak at many seminars, workshops and conferences. He taught multimedia and sound engineering to previously disadvantaged children, for three and a half years.

Technology in Songwriting

Belinda will demonstrate how songs are constructed using hi-tech studio gear. She’ll cover various topics including the history of songwriting, composition technique, and her insights. She’ll demonstrate studio monitors, studio microphones, recording software, and studio equipment.

Tone Guru

This is a guitar effects workshop by Lyle Burger from the band Gage. It features help on getting better tone from your gear.
Lyle has performed live on SABC 2, e-tv, and at Oppikoppi and Café Barcelona to name but a few. The band Gage will perform live on Acoustic Guitar. It also features a full demo of the Laney GH100L Half Stack valve amp for guitar. He’ll show us how to get better tones from amps and effects, using his advanced and professional approach.

Live Electro and Tech

This workshop will focus on Electronic Music Production, and includes the use of MIDI controllers in performance, with new ideas and demonstrations to take to the stage.
