The introduction of the electric guitar to the world from around the late 1930’s has completely revolutionised modern pop and rock music. The electric has become somewhat of a symbol and icon for “rockstardom” and expression due to the musical legends such as Jimi Hendrix, Jimmy Page and Eric Clapton who popularised and brought this instrument to the forefront of the world.
We stock the classic and iconic electric guitars such as the Stratocaster and Telecaster. As well as other popular brands such as Cort and Music Man. with a range of models that will suit the wallet and experience level of any electric guitarist in South Africa.
Let us take a look at the various aspects below which make up the electric guitar and can help differentiate between which type of guitar is best suited for you.
Type of Electric Body
Most people immediately associate the electric with the solid-body electric such as the Stratocaster or Les Paul. However, the are other body types such as a hollow body, semi-hollow and chambered body guitars.
Type of Wood
An important factor to consider when buying an electric is the type of wood used on both the body, neck as well as the fretboard. For example Ash is a popular body type chosen for electric guitars along with the use of Rosewood for the fretboards and necks. We have you covered when it comes to different electric guitar wood types.
Scale Length
An overlooked aspect of electric guitars is the scale length. This can be considered the length of the guitar. For example, a Telecaster Deluxe will have a much longer scale than a Les Paul mode. There is no right or wrong to this, it essentially comes down to personal preference.
Pickup Configuration
An essential aspect to the sound of the electric guitar is the pickups. After all, these are are responsible for converting the vibrations into sound. We have guitars with various pickup configurations which include single coils, humbuckers as well as active pickups.
