Vinnie, a.k.a. “The Pocket Rocket,” is the first-call session/freelance drummer residing in South Africa.
He has recorded close to 500 albums of various genres including Pop, Rock, Jazz Fusion, African, Country, Dance and World Music. Vinnie currently runs and records in his own state-of-the-art drum recording facility called “THE DRUMROOM.” The Drumroom is South Africa’s top drum recording studio, utilized by clients from around the world, including USA, Australia, and Europe.
For this clinic, Vinnie will be bringing along a few recordings and, using them, he’ll be teaching you how he listens to recordings and writes drum parts for them. He’ll teach you how to stay ‘true’ to the song, whilst putting your own ‘stamp’ on the drum piece. It’s all about listening and honoring the piece!
Vinnie recorded tracks for both the opening and closing ceremonies of the FIFA 2010 World Cup, under the musical direction of “Mr. Lion King” himself, Lebo M, and S.A. Jazz Legend, Themba Mkize.
