More About The First Ever Muizenberg Jazz Festival

About 12 years ago Ulla Gosebrink attended a jazz event in Muizenberg. On this evening Kyle Shepherd and Reza Khota were performing, and it was the best jazz Ulla had ever heard.

This spark planted the seed for a jazz festival in Muizenberg. Over the next decade, Ulla gained a lot of insight into the South African jazz scene by organizing numerous jazz events.

One such event is the Museum Concerts at the Slave Church in Long Street which has been running since 2011. You may also know of her Foyer Sessions at the Masque Theatre which she started in 2013.

So often in life, there are detours and distractions, but eventually, Ulla found the perfect partner to help her to realize her idea of a jazz festival.

In 2016 she met Muriel Marco. A jazz musician, singer, pianist and composer. The two worked together on some projects, and their collaboration efforts grew.

After some time they began to discuss how to bring the idea of a jazz festival in Muizenberg to life. After a few hurdles, The First Ever Muizenberg Jazz Festival finally became a reality.
