The Roland Juno DS Synthesizer Revisited

Ever rocked up at a band rehearsal as a keyboardist and realised you need to do a lot more than just keys? Synth lead, pads, marimba, strings and even vocoder. Perhaps the band should have requested a magician and not a keyboardist. Amazingly the Juno-DS range from Roland is capable of all that and so much more. It jam-packed with tons of features that will see you dominating any gig every time!

Let’s start by having a look at its design. The Juno-DS series offers 61-, 76- and 88-key options, each offering different key actions to suit any playing style and preference. The 61 key option offers a sleek feeling synth action, the 76 key Juno-DS has a semi-weighted key action and the Juno-DS-88 has an authentic-feeling weighted key action with Roland signature ivory-feel keys! The light weight durable cache makes the Juno-DS range ultra-portable and allows for easy transportation from rehearsal to studio, session to showtime!

Here's a quick run-through of the Juno range...

Digging into the details

Some of the most exciting features. There are many great features on the Juno-DS but here are some of the top hitters. Over 1000 on-board sounds as a standard on the Juno-DS series makes composing and performing effortless. Amazingly you can add more on-board sounds when you want. Nine tone categories host these 1000 tones, from pianos to strings, drums to guitars and nearly everything in between.

Capture inspiration with the built-in sequencer

Another great feature is the 8-track sequencer on the Juno-DS. Have you ever had a burst of musical inspiration but instantly felt uninspired at the thought of having to explain it to the rest of the band?

The Juno-DS series allows you to easily sequence 8 instruments to get any burst of inspiration down and saved. After saving your new song on your Juno-DS, play it back to your band, take it straight to performance or move it to your Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) to refine and master your track.

Finally the sample import capability makes the Juno-DS a powerful performance keyboard. By inserting USB Memory, the Juno-DS allows you to import audio data and trigger it using the 8 phrase pads. This means that with the touch of a button you can trigger MP3/WAV samples no matter what they are – loops, audio hits, drum beats and much more.

We’ve just scratched the surface of the feature packed Roland Juno-DS series. The bottom line is that whether you’re in studio, rehearsing, streaming live or gigging the Juno-DS is an affordable powerhouse that will take your performance to the next level!
