Today we’re going to explore Roland’s world of hybrid drumming, specifically related to drum triggers and sound modules that you can add to your standard acoustic drum kit. Simply put, they allow you to add sonic variety and interest to a standard acoustic drum kit’s sound by layering digital sound samples over, or even replacing, the drum sounds in your live or studio mix.
What Is A Drum Trigger?
Put simply, a drummer trigger is a unit that attaches to an existing acoustic drum that sends a electrical pulse or signal the moment that drum is struck. This allows you to combine multiple add other sounds or samples to your drum sound, as you trigger them in real time.
RT-30HR Dual Trigger
Ideal for use on snare drums, the RT-30HR supports independent head and rim triggering for playing two different sounds from the same drum. It also incorporates a new self-guided mount that automatically sets the sensor in the optimum position against the drumhead.
RT-30K Kick Trigger
Developed specifically for use on bass drum, the RT-30K provides fast and accurate triggering in a robust unit that’s simple to install. Being a part of the RT-30 range, it also includes the innovative automatic mounting sensor for easy installation.
What Is A Drum Module?
The signal sent by the drum trigger has to go somewhere, and something has to produce all those extra sounds or samples that make hybrid drumming so interesting. This is where drum modules come in.
Essentially, when the attached trigger is struck, the drum module will, in unison, play the sample or sound you have specified.
