Guitar Improvisation 101

Regardless of whether you play jazz, metal, or anything in between, effective improvisation requires years of practice and a solid understanding of music theory and concepts. But even Al Di Meola didn’t pick up an instrument and start improvising off the bat.

Just like with song writing or sweep picking, if you want to improve your ability to improvise, you need two things; practice and knowledge. While we can’t help you practice, we can give you an opportunity to learn. During this FREE Guitar Frenzy workshop Trent Richardson will guide you through the basics of improvisation so that you can begin your journey.

About Trent Richardson

Trent first became interested in improvisation as a discipline after attending the Grahamstown Jazz festival in 2011, where he became inspired by the level of artistry he discovered there. Since then, improvising and writing music has become his favourite pastime.

Trent is also an experienced live performer, playing over one hundred shows with the modern tock band Set For The Sky as guitarist, as well as occassionally playing bass, percussion and guitar for the alternative Jazz band Morning Ms. Dednam.
