DV Village Music Drum Off

ON Tuesday, the 28th of July, DV Village Music in Bloemfontein held their first ever “Drumoff” competition. The turnout for the event was great, with approximately 60 people in attendance.

The U13 division was won by Kaynen Whiteley.

The U19 division was won by Whian Fouche, who had everyone cheering when he stood on the drum throne while still playing during his final solo.

The open section was won by Bernard Britz.

Both the U19 and open divisions involved a final playoff between the top two in each class. Most of the guys were essentially “Rock” drummers, however Bernard and Tsholo Mosola, the runner up in Open, showed a more advanced skill set. They both had better technique and displayed more Jazz and Funk chops.

An enjoyable time was had by all present. All the contestants, as well as the team from DV Village Music expressed interest in doing it again next year. The idea was to have fun and create camaraderie amongst the local drummers and to that end the “Drumoff” succeeded admirably.
