Bio:

Jon started playing drums at the age of 9 in his home church in Caracas, Venezuela. He took drums and latin percussion lessons for a number of years and after finishing high school travelled to the UK where he graduated at the Nexus Institute of Creative Arts. While in the UK, Jon also had live playing experience in the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland and France.

In 2010 Jon moved to South Africa to undertake a 3 year volunteer programme as a multi-instrumentalist at a church, as well as to teach drums and, after that, he became an employee at M&M Performing Arts Academy, where he now heads the drum department.

During his years in South Africa, Jon has done numerous workshops, he has been featured on drum magazines and was invited as a guest clinician to various events that featured some of South Africa’s top drummers.

Jon completed his RSL Grade 8 Certificate and Level 4 Teaching Diploma and has been able to mentor hundreds of students of all ages. He is also a session musician and has played for multiple local artists and collaborated with highly accomplished musicians.

Jon’s online influence has landed him international endorsements and a high fan base on his YouTube channel that currently sits with 45,000 subscribers and over 5 million views.

Bio:

Internationally known drummer Kevin Gibson is based in Cape Town. Kevin is arguably the most popular, versatile and respected drummer in South Africa with a career that spans nearly three decades. He is one of the original Jazzanians, a popular Durban-based group formed in the 80's that went on tour around the USA. Kevin has recorded with the likes of Stef Bos and has toured with artists such as Johnny Clegg as well as Zim Ngqawana. Bio:

Adrian discovered heavy rock and drums in his mid-teens and has never looked back. Over the years he has performed in many bands, with styles ranging from african jazz & cabaret to extreme metal. Currently he occupies the drum throne for pop/rock artist Mark Haze (as well as being part of the core team in the Bon Jovi & Masters of Rock tribute show) and thrash metallers Infanteria.
He is a South African ambassador and endorsee for Mapex Drums and Roland Vdrums and electronics.

Bio:

Often touted as the next big thing, Parable Fifteen is a Durban-based band comprising of four musicians
who consider themselves family. Described as “Country Rock” / “New Country” Parable Fifteen began their
journey in 2010.
Band members, Marc Skarda (Vocals), Adam Fanner (Guitar), Bryce Breeds (Bass Guitar) and Marius Botha
(Drums) - combine their various individual tastes and styles to create a sound that is both nostalgic and
fresh.
Each member is an accomplished artist in their own right. Breaking records in 2021 with four Top 10
charting songs. Parable Fifteen was the only South African Band to have three singles in the Top 50 songs of
the year.
After playing drums for a number of years Marius Botha joined Parable Fifteen in 2018. He became an
integral part of Parable Fifteen with his unique drum fills, hard work and great character, blending perfectly
with the Parable Fifteen.

Judges:

All contestants will be judged by independent judges, who have significant experience in:

Performing/Percussion

Teaching Drum Percussion

Drumming/Percussion Skills

Substantial Knowledge of and Experience in the Music Industry.

 

Rules and Limitations:

-Open to all Styles/Genres and Ages

-Participants have 3min in which to impress the judges.

-A standard 5-piece drum-kit will be supplied.

-Contestants must enter and compete in the category of their age.  ( Under 16 / Open Division )

-Each category is Limited to a maximum of 8 contestants.

-Entries work on a “First Come” basis.

 

Contestants will be judged on the following Criteria:

-Overall Performance, Originality and Creativity, Technique, Stage presence, Groove.
