Chris Chameleon in ‘Flennie die Snare’

Flennie die Snare

Chris Chameleon is the kind of artist who needs no introduction; That’s one of the perks of winning three SAMA awards and a medal of honour from the South African Academy of Science and Arts. Critics have described the poet Boerneef as having some of the best Afrikaans prose you could read. Combine the two, and you have an excellent show: ‘Flennie die Snare’

More About ‘Flennie die Snare’

Bantom hom so
En flennie die snare
Ek is verlief op die kind
Die son slaan vuur uit die sweetvoshare
Ek is verlief op die kind

– Boerneef.

In 1958 Boerneef published his second volume of poetry entitled Ghaap en kambro. Almost 30 years later Louis van Rensburg set the poem to music and gave it new life. As Louis sings the song, he makes it dance and flow in a way that even non-Afrikaans speakers can love the sounds of the words.

Now, 60-years later, it’s time for Chris Chameleon to take up the mantle, and put his spin on it. Joining Christ is Mauritz Lotz, Anna Davel and a host of others.
