The Cape Town Male Voice Choir will celebrate its Jubilee and CD launch with a concert in the Bishop’s Chapel, Rondebosch at 19:30 on Tuesday 26 April.

This special variety concert will also feature the distinguished Cape Town soprano Beverley Chiat, the Phoenix Choir from Zimbabwe, currently touring South Africa, and the talented young people’s choir iGugu Le Kapa (Pride of Cape Town), who combine European harmonisation with African forms of group singing.

The 40-year old CTMVC will be led by its musical director Peter Roux with Margaret Barlow also appearing as guest conductor for a number of songs, including a special rendition of the animated Africa South, simulating a Highveld thunderstorm.

The concert programme Beverly Chiat will perform two solos and also join the choir in Mozart’s moving Laudate Dominum and Alvinu Malkeinu. Other numbers that the CTMVC will perform include Morte Criste, the Lacrymosa from Mozart’s Requiem, Ukuthula, Woza Ngikutshel’Indaba, Love Changes Everything and, of course, the stormy Africa South.

This will be the second concert where the accomplished Phoenix Choir from Zimbabwe will share the stage with the CTMVC. They will perform five numbers: Anthem from Chess, 42nd Street, Since I fell for You, This Shall be for Music and I love the Rose.

The concert will also mark the formal release of the choir’s first CD, Ukuthula, which has received rave reviews and contains 17 memorable tracks.
