The Cape Town Big Band Jazz Festival was founded in 1999 by the late Dennis Barr. The festival is renowned as one of South Africa’s premier showcases of youthful musical talent. The festival is a four day musical event showcasing 24 big bands from school, colleges and local communities.
Unfortunately, as with all festivals, 2020 has been a challenging year for the CTBBJF, and they were forced to postpone this years event.
Fortunately though, that hasn’t put a stop to them, as they have recently launched their Social Media presence and plan on moving forward with their Youtube channel to bring the CTBBJF online!
Watch here as festival director, Ann Barr, tells us a bit about how the festival came about in 1999. She reflects on the festival’s history, her personal highlights over the years, and tells us how the festival grew into the major success it is today.
