The band was formed in 1924.

Band performances include competitions, all Regimental parades, as well as military tattoos, memorials, corporate functions festivals and concerts. Individual Pipers are also hired for private functions (eg. formal dinners, weddings, anniversaries, birthdays & funerals).

The Cape Town Caledonian Pipe Band is a non-profit, self-supported organisation.

The Pipe Band comprises 35 members, and is currently under the leadership of Pipe Major Tony Reis (2000 – present).
