Barleycorn’s 25th Annual Songwriters Competition

The Barleycorn Music Club hosted the 25th edition of its annual songwriting competition this past Monday. Within the constraints of current COVID-19 protocols, the club managed to successfully host with a small live audience, while streaming live online, with viewers joining from all over the world.

Despite fierce competition, songwriter Roelof van der Merwe took home 1st place this year with his song “for you”. The well-deserved runner-up positions of  2nd and 3rd place went to Derek Leisegang, and Liftclub.

Moving forward, the Barleycorn is continuing to host their Monday evening sessions, while of course strictly adhering to COVID-19 restrictions.

They meet every Monday at 20h00 at The Saggy Stone Pub & Restaurant, Villager FC, 11 Imam Haron Road (previously Lansdowne Road), Claremont.

Entrance is R30 for members and R40 for non-members.

A full bar and pub food kitchen are operational at the venue.
