Dominic Swartz is a 24 year old musician from Cape Town who has been playing the piano since the age of 6. Starting out as a classical pianist, he was always interested when listening to Jazz and Pop music.
In 2012 his dream was realised when he started his very own band called “The UnExpected”. Over the years Dominic found a love for various other instrument such as the bass guitar, drumkit and percussion. He learnt how to play ALL of them.
Dominic still currently plays for various orchestras as an adhoc percussionist. He is often part of The Cape Philharmonic Orchestra, The Fyn Arts Orchestra, The Stellenbosch City Orchestra and The South African National Youth Orchestra just to name a few. He has also been fortunate enough to have played as a percussionist for Heineken’s Symphonic Rocks Show in which he played with artists such as Toya Delazy, Micasa,Loyiso Bala, Chianosky, Akin, Mac Stanely, Zahara, Zolani, Tumi and the Volume and other amazing artists. Dominic has currently completed his degree in Music Education at UCT. At the end of 2015)Dominic also played with the International artist and Concert Pianist Adlan Cruz for his Chrismas Gala concert which was in Cape Town.
The UnExpected was put together by Dominic Swartz in 2012. We originally started by doing a charity show at UCT in order to help less privileged musicians. From then the group has been going from strength to strength. ‘The UnExpected’ are a very diverse group with regards to each members musical background and because of this the group is very flexible with regards to the type of music they play. Influences from Gospel, RnB, Jazz, Pop, Funk, Heavy Metal, Classical etc can all be heard within the bands playing style.
