Headline Drum Clinic: Applying Paradiddles to your Drumming

One of the first exercises that most drummers first master is how to play paradiddles. But what exactly are paradiddles, and how do you play them? In this free drum month workshop, Johann Rossouw will guide you through the basics of playing paradiddles. 

This the ideal workshop for all beginner drummers, and you don’t even need to own a full drum kit to participate. To work through the lessons from the workshops, all you’ll need is a set of drumsticks, a practice pad, and a metronome. With those three items, you can take your practicing anywhere you go.

More About Johann Rossouw

Johann Rossouw starting playing drums when he got a drum kit for his14th birthday. He took lessons at Jamrock Music Academy and went into the metal scene where he played shows in and around Cape Town. 

Although inexperienced as a musician at the time, it was here where he discovered that he wanted to make drumming his career.

Johann went on to study drums at the Campus Of Performing Arts in Cape Town. He finished his NQF2 in drums and bass, then his NQF3 in drums. It was while studying that he opened himself to new and different styles of music. Johann played for a few cover bands and got back into the live scene. 

Since then, he has finished his Rockschool Grade 8 and passed with distinction while keeping himself busy on a variety of projects.

Johann is currently teaching at Jamrock Music Academy and playing for various artist and bands.
