Workshops
Presented by Leighton Pinetown

Zildjian Cymbal Anatomy

Have you ever wondered what separates the types and styles of cymbal? This workshop will delve into the anatomy of the cymbals, and will specifically look at ranges, types, sounds and the application of cymbals.

The Beauty of Drum Grooves

Drum Grooves are what separate the metronome from the drummer. Groove is mostly about feel and gelling with the rest of your Rhythm section. During this workshop, Leighton will look into the beauty of triplets and how to implement them.

Additionally, he will look at rudiment fills, tuning basics, stick choice and much more. This is the perfect workshop for any new or intermediate drummer.

More about Leighton

Leighton Pinetown has been teaching marching percussion from beginner to advanced courses including traditional African drumming since 1986.

He graduated as a teacher in 1991 and has 22 years drumming experience. Under his tutelage, the drumming and percussion group won the national championship for five consecutive years in the Field Band Competition.

Leighton has since left teaching, after recognizing a need within his community and province. He owns a consulting and training firm, where all popular forms of drumming are taught professionally, and facilitates percussion workshops for government departments, viz. Sports, Arts and Culture, and education.
