The Mapex Black Panther Velvetone BPV628XCUB component pack offers serious shells to professional drummers.
Mapex has a long history of combining materials to produce great sounding shells. With the Velvetone BPV628XCUB, they have elevated this art to new levels. The Velvetone features an altered maple and walnut shell. This formula helps each drum to be more dynamic in tone. A drummer is will be able to make the drum “whisper, yet bark at a moments notice”.
The rich walnut interior acts as a low-end buffer, while the maple exterior provides all the dynamics that set this kit apart.

The Velvetone kit comes with a virgin bass drum. Virgin bass drums have not had holes drilled for tom mounts. This allows the shell to vibrate freely and naturally. Because of this, the drum is able to produce a much better tonal quality. Thus improving the overall clarity and ensuring that the bass will cut through a mix.
In addition to the shells, this component kit comes with chromed hardware. The Mapex SonicSaver counter hoops also come standard with the kit. The SonicSavers are specifically designed to focus the overall sound.
The hoops offer a unique profile which reduces the wear and tear on sticks and hands, while also dramatically enhancing the response.
The Mapex Ethos
Mapex believes that it all starts with the raw materials. The company is always striving to build the best shells. This process relies heavily on the expertise of those who source the woods used.
Once the perfect tone woods have been selected, next comes the looks. A great looking kit will inspire any drummer to spend hours honing their craft. All of the Mapex lacquer drums have an eight-coat, hand rubbed, high-gloss lacquer applied to each shell. This allows the finish to be both durable and easy to maintain.
