Ministry-Month-Artcile-Header

One of the things we at Paul Bothner Music we take great pleasure in is working with our local community. During the month of May we traditionally have our “May Ministry Month”, a month dedicated our friends in the church.

Throughout the course of the year we often meet with local ministers and worship leaders and help them to identify solutions to issues they are experiencing on a day by day basis. Then during our Ministry Month we chose a few of the common issues and run free workshops that are aimed at informing and empowering the musicians in the congregation. We have in the past run workshops on sound reinforcement and engineering, new approaches for leading worship and different playing styles aimed specifically for the gospel musician, to name but a few.

The presenters we book are experts in their field and actively work in their congregation. The insight they offer is invaluable and comes from years of hands-on experience.

With May just around the corner we are in the midst of finalizing our clinicians and the subjects that they will present for this year’s May Ministry Month. The workshops that have been confirmed so far are the most exciting we’ve had to date. The specifics of the workshops will released as soon as we’ve finalised them.

We are also aware that your church might need some new gear, but that your budget might not cover what you need. So, to help you save some money and get that new PA system or keyboard that your church might need, we will be slashing the prices on selected items of gear.

We look forward to seeing you at one (or all) of our workshops, but if need any advice before then please don’t hesitate to phone or visit the Paul Bothner Music branch closest to you.

If you would like to keep informed about the workshops that we will be running in May, or the workshops that we run throughout the course of the year, be sure to regularly check our website or sign up to our weekly news letter {here}

A New Level of Piano Performance at Home

The FP-50’s authentic piano sound and touch provides top-level performance for playing all musical genres, from classical and jazz to rock and pop. Roland’s SuperNATURAL Piano sound engine faithfully replicates the unmatched tone color and expressiveness of the finest acoustic grand pianos, delivering seamless velocity response, natural tone decay, and authentic key-range behavior. Supreme playability comes from the Ivory Feel-G Keyboard with Escapement, which inherits the functions, appearance, and texture of keyboards found in our flagship pianos. At an affordable price, the stylish FP-50 offers sound, touch, and expressiveness rivaling that of high-end instruments.
Versatile Features and Easy Mobility for Live Players

Streamlined and compact, the FP-50 is easy to transport anywhere. In addition to premium acoustic pianos, it’s filled with a large selection of stage-ready sounds, including SuperNATURAL-based classic EPs, essential organ tones, strings, modern synths, and more. Stereo outputs let you connect to an external amplification system, while the built-in speakers help you monitor your performance while on stage. The intelligent rhythm feature gives you control of an entire onboard backing band for solo performing, with automatic accompaniment that follows whatever you play on the keyboard.

Digital Advantages for Developing Piano Skills

The FP-50’s digital technology offers many great benefits that enhance your piano practice sessions. You can turn off the built-in speakers and play privately using headphones, allowing you to practice day or night without disturbing family members or neighbors. Rhythm accompaniments assist you in developing timing and groove, and the wide selection of music styles help expand your versatility. Via optional USB memory, you can play along with WAV audio files using various playback options such as key transposition, tempo adjustment, and Center Cancel, and record your performances as audio data for composing or self-evaluation. SMF songs can be played from USB memory as well.

Fun Air Performer App for iOS Devices

Extend your piano enjoyment with Roland Wireless Connect and the free Air Performer app, which lets you play along with your favorite songs in your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch through the FP-50’s sound system. Roland Wireless Connect is simple to set up and use, providing convenient, cable-free communication with Apple iOS devices via Roland’s optional WNA1100-RL Wireless USB Adapter.

With the new STUDIO-CAPTURE, Roland once again raises the performance standard for computer-based audio production. The latest addition to the acclaimed CAPTURE family boasts 12 premium-grade mic preamps, an industry first for a compact USB audio interface. A total of 16 audio inputs, 10 audio outputs, and MIDI I/O offers massive connectivity for pro-level setups, all in a single, tabletop unit that fits easily into a travel bag. Other top-flight features include 24-bit/192 kHz audio quality, comprehensive front-panel metering, XLR monitor outputs with dedicated level control, dual headphone outputs, rock-solid drivers with VS STREAMING technology, and much more. Durable, portable, and ready to take on large-scale recording projects both in the studio and on the road, STUDIO-CAPTURE stands head and shoulders above all other USB audio interfaces on the market.

Top Quality for Modern Audio Production

Combining pro-level audio performance, abundant I/O, and a versatile mobile design, STUDIO-CAPTURE is a powerful solution for today’s musicians, composers, and recording engineers. It delivers quality equivalent to dedicated rackmount audio interfaces costing much more, all in a compact, go-everywhere package that’s equally suited for traveling production, tabletop use in home studios, or permanent installation in commercial studios with the included rack ears. The 16 audio inputs, 12 mic preamps, and flexible monitor mixing allow you to track most bands without adding any additional hardware, or simultaneously connect multiple synthesizers and other devices in large-scale composing setups. To take on really big projects, you can seamlessly expand your I/O to 32 inputs and 24 mic preamps simply by adding a second STUDIO-CAPTURE.

12 Premium Mic Preamps

Among its many standout features, STUDIO-CAPTURE offers 12 digitally controlled mic preamps (VS PREAMPS), built with premium-grade components for exceptional low-noise performance, high headroom, and transparent sound quality. 12 XLR/TRS combo inputs are provided for the preamps, with four inputs conveniently located on the front panel for quick and easy access. Available on each channel is independent phantom power, a low-cut filter, phase invert, and digital compression, accessible via the included software control panel.

Overview

Generous and Flexible I/O

STUDIO-CAPTURE is equipped with a total of 16 input channels and 10 output channels. With the versatile, space-saving combo jacks, each of the 12 XLR mic inputs can alternately be used as a balanced/unbalanced ¼-inch line input, while inputs 13-16 have their own dedicated rear-panel TRS jacks. Inputs 1 and 2 can be switched to Hi-Z operation for connecting guitars and basses directly, while inputs 15/16 can be assigned to the coaxial digital input. Eight analog outputs are provided on TRS jacks, with the main stereo outputs mirrored on XLR jacks. Two additional outputs (9/10) are available via a coaxial digital jack. STUDIO-CAPTURE also features MIDI I/O, with Roland’s proprietary FPT processing for superior high-speed performance.

High-Performance VS STREAMING Technology

STUDIO-CAPTURE offers high-resolution, 24-bit recording at rates up to 192 kHz, with incredible stability and industry-leading low-latency USB performance provided by Roland’s proprietary VS STREAMING technology. All current Mac and PC DAW platforms are supported through ASIO 2.0/WDM (Windows) and Core Audio (Mac) drivers. Thanks to VS STREAMING, you can expand your I/O by using two STUDIO-CAPTUREs on the same USB bus without compromising stability or audio quality.

AUTO-SENS: Perfect Levels at the Touch of a Button

Unique to Roland’s CAPTURE family is the innovative AUTO-SENS feature, which makes it fast and easy to set perfect input levels every time. Just press the dedicated front-panel button, play your connected instruments, and STUDIO-CAPTURE automatically sets the ideal recording level for each input in seconds. Useful for pros and beginners alike, AUTO-SENS is great for quick, fail-safe audio capture when recording a fully mic’d drum kit or an entire band.

Comprehensive Monitoring and Metering

Bright, responsive LED meters let you keep an eye on levels for individual input and output channels and the MONITOR OUT, while dedicated input channel buttons and other intuitive controls make it easy to navigate the built-in display. The MONITOR OUT section features a dedicated LEVEL knob for control room volume, plus a DIRECT MONITOR knob for listening to selected input signals. Two headphone jacks—each with their own level knob—allow a musician and engineer to monitor at the same time without additional hardware.
Flexible Monitor Mixing with Effects

Beyond traditional audio interfacing, STUDIO-CAPTURE offers four independent Direct Mixers for zero-latency monitoring, operated via the software control panel. Powered by STUDIO-CAPTURE’s internal DSP, each mix can be routed to any of the outputs, perfect for sending custom monitor mixes to headphones, speakers, or recording devices. Mix configurations can be saved for later use, providing quick setups for many different applications. A high-quality reverb processor is available for monitoring, allowing singers and instrumentalists to record dry tracks while listening to great-sounding ambience effects.

I have been teaching guitar and bass for close to 10 years now, and often I get asked what the best bass would be for some one starting out. The Action Bass is right on the top of my suggestion list. These basses are stunning to look at and a pleasure to play. Even later down the road if you decide to upgrade your bass, the Action Bass would make a great addition as back-up bass.” – Warwick Levey, Guitar Teacher at Gryphon Music Academy

Key Features

  • Die cast tuners
  • The diecast tuners on the Action series basses provide stability and fine tuning.
  • Canadian Hard Maple Neck
  • Due to its stiffness and therefore stability, hard maple has become the main wood for building bass necks, especially Bolt-On neck joints.

It’s time for you to dust off your instruments, kiss your spouse goodbye and prepare for this years installment of WEEKEND WARRIORS!This year’s gig will take place on the 27th of June at the Rondebosch Golf Club.

What is Weekend Warriors?

Weekend Warriors is an international program designed to take mature musicians and give them an opportunity to play in a band again. Paul Bothner Music will, for the small fee of R450, provide you with rehearsal space, a professional music coach, instruments on which to play, and at the end of the program, we will organize a gig for all of the bands in the program to showcase their work! It’s never too late to reach for those Rock Star aspirations. All you need so you can join Weekend Warriors is some time and a good attitude. We will place you in a band of musicians of a similar skill level and with similar music tastes.

The program consists of:

  • A jam session for all potential Warriors, where bands will be formed
  • A weekly rehearsal over four weeks, working with your own Weekend Warriors coach
  • Great instruments and PA provided for you at the weekly rehearsal
  • The big Weekend Warriors gig, complete with staging, lighting, sound and roadies all working hard to make you a star!
  • If you’re not sure, come along to the jam – no charge for attending. If you like it, join up!

Brinn Tomes

Brinn has been an entrepreneur since the age of 19, choosing to follow his corporate business career ahead of his music passion and career.
