Roland’s Fantom-X series is a grand-slam hit around the globe. The Fantom’s high-quality sound engine is a key factor in its success. The JUNO-G shares the same processor as the Fantom-X, and thus delivers the finest sound quality on the market — including an 88-note multisampled grand piano, and a wide range of sounds that span from classical to cutting-edge. You can further expand your JUNO-G with one of Roland’s SRX expansion boards (optional).

Audio/MIDI Recorder Onboard
For songwriters and performers, the JUNO-G’s16-part MIDI sequencer is a must. But the addition of four companion stereo audio tracks is a huge bonus, and an unexpected surprise for an instrument in this price range! Now players can lay down the perfect backing tracks plus vocals, live guitar parts, and the like. Computer Friendly
The beauty of the JUNO-G is that it can be used to by itself create complete songs from start to finish, but for those who want to take it one step further and incorporate a computer into the setup, the JUNO-G can be linked to a PC or Mac via its USB port. All MIDI communications can be handled over USB, which can also be used to send and receive WAV/AIF files and patch data. The Horizon features 7.2mm, Birch basswood mixed shells on HZB or basswood shells on HX with newly designed, low mass lugs. These small profile lugs are mounted to the shell using only a single point of contact, minimizing the holes drilled into the shell and thereby enhancing resonance. Horizon Series drums also Remo® drumheads, including a self-muffling bass drum batter head.

The Horizon’s bass drum claws are newly designed to be low in profile and include cushioned gaskets to protect the bass drum hoops. The bass drum’s tom mount features new styling and a built-in adapter to accommodate an optional cymbal arm.

Horizon Series drums use the Mapex-exclusive Isolated Tom Mounting System (ITS). The lightweight and compact system employs Mapex’s unique combination of off-the-shell mounting hardware that allows the drum to resonate more freely, improving projection and sustain. The Horizon’s ITS features an interlocking tom bracket that ensures secure positioning as well as quick and easy set up and tear down.

All Horizon drum sets feature newly designed Mapex 500 Series Hardware. The 500 Series includes many features that were introduced with the 700 series hardware including newly styled memory locks and Multi-Sustain Cymbal Felts, that allow players to use any combination of plastic or felt on their cymbal stands for more precise cymbal sustain.

Mapex Horizon drum sets also include an instructional set-up DVD, hosted by Drumming’s Global Ambassador and Mapex Artist, Dom Famularo.

SONAR V-Studio 100 comes with a suite of software instruments and effects, including:

• VX-64 Vocal Strip – a seven-stage processor for shaping and sculpting incredible sounding vocal tracks. Each of the VX-64’s stages have been fine-tuned to be vocal-specific, taking the effort out of dialling in an entire chain of vocal processors. All the keyboard sounds in the recorded examples below are created from the guitar part in realtime without overdubs, so would be equally suited for studio or live playing. You’ll notice I always layer the synth sound over the guitar sound instead of using synth sounds alone – I like guitar sounds, dammit!

Arabic Ringtone

Description: A simple string sound doubling the guitar.

Big Intro
Instrumentation: Drums, bass, guitar x2
Description: Swept synth sound with sustain pedal to keep the sound going while the guitar (and a delay) get busy over the top of it. Second, lead guitar only comes in at 0:48.

Melancholy Romance
Instrumentation: Single guitar
Description: Low, slow sweep only is synth sound to create moody atmosphere. Upper frequency gloss is not synth, but effected guitar (octave up pitch shift, reverse delay, phase & autopanning).

Junkyard Dogs
Instrumentation: Drums, guitar x3
Description: My favourite little ditty I’ve done in the last year. Guitar synth provides bass and Hammond organ sounds. Bass is on low three strings while Hammond is on three treble strings. Guitar and bass sound together create an interesting 8-string bass sound. First 30 seconds is all one guitar and drums only, then lead and harmony guitar join in at 30 and 50 seconds.

Heavy
Instrumentation: Drums, bass, single guitar
Description: Guitar has a very heavy synth sound added which makes even the two string intro fat and heavy. A second monophonic synth is layered in from 0:20 which uses an arpeggiator to provide some single note movement to the chords, making it sound like it comes from a completely different source. Wah sound is part of the bass sound, not a synth.

Industrial
Instrumentation: Single guitar
Description: Whoo boy… All one guitar, realtime. Low pitched “chuntering” pad from one note played with guitar volume down and sustained throughout the whole piece with the pedal. Interference is from normal magnetic pickups, from bringing guitar close to the laptop.  Second, layered synth sound switched in immediately after that – quite a complex sound (listen to the single open E string note at 0:30 – 0:43). Mostly I’m just playing percussive noises and things on the guitar which creates a host of false starts and occasional glitches from the synth patch. Quick (and badly ended) arpeggio and finish. Synth accommodatingly glitches by accident as the last note fades out (which is why I didn’t re-record to try get the arpeggio right).
