AKAI Pro’s MAX49 MIDI Controller

With an intuitive layout and the included AkaiConnect automatic-mapping software, MAX49 offers a fully immersive experience with virtually all VSTTM plug-ins and music software. From its 49 semi-weighted keys and 12 real MPC pads, to its groundbreaking LED touch faders and vintage CV & Gate outputs, MAX49 combines cutting-edge Akai Pro technology with classic capabilities, to deliver an unprecedented music-making experience.

MAX49 represents the state of the art for keyboard controllers. It’s an instant standout due to its most distinguishing feature: four banks of eight backlit LED touch faders, allowing the assignment of up to 32 control parameters. These illuminated LED touch faders can be used like analog faders by simply dragging a finger along the strips, or musicians can perform instant leaps in any MIDI value from zero to maxed out—an unparalleled keyboard controller capability.

Equipped with four banks of 12 backlit MPC pads, MAX49 provides a total of 48 assignable pads, allowing for the integration of legendary Akai Pro production capability into live performances and recording sessions alike. These velocity sensitive pads come with classic MPC Swing, Note Repeat, Full Level and navigation controls to allow musicians to create music at the highest level.

MAX49 comes ready to command any controller hardware or software from any era: USB MIDI, traditional 5-pin DIN MIDI as well as Control Voltage and Gate outputs give users the ability to control everything from today’s most advanced music software to analog modular synths from as far back as the 1960s. Mackie Control and HUI protocols also give instant compatibility with many industry standard DAWs.

49 semi-weighted keys with Aftertouch are onboard, providing professional feel, perfect response and full musical expression. Large, centrally positioned transport controls offer straightforward track navigation, while rubberized pitch and modulation wheels provide for creative flourishes. MAX49′s expanded arpeggiator includes a latch button as well as eight different time divisions to create sweeping and endlessly varied melodic cascades. A built-in step sequencer allows musicians to bring their music from concept to reality with exacting detail.

Included AkaiConnect automatic-mapping software allows users to be up and running in their favorite DAW and VST plugins in seconds, eliminating the guesswork.

“We wanted to build a controller that pushes the boundaries but also embraces classic technology,” said Dan Gill, Akai Professional Product Manager. “MAX49 combines features and technology that have never been together before – we can’t wait to see how musicians will use it.”

Yamaha HS80M Powered Monitors

If Your Mixes Sound Good On These, They’ll Sound Good Anywhere
Designed as true reference monitors with exceptionally flat response. If your mix sounds good here, it’ll sound good everywhere.

Features

2-way bass-reflex bi-amplified near-field studio monitor

8″ cone woofer and 1″ dome high-frequency unit

42Hz – 20kHz frequency response.

120 watts dynamic bi-amplified power.

XLR and TRS phone jack inputs accept balanced or unbalanced signals.

Level control facilitates precise overall system level matching.

MID EQ, ROOM CONTROL, and HIGH TRIM response control switches.

LOW CUT switch.

Full magnetic shielding.

Overview

When choosing reference monitors for mixing and music production, accuracy is the prime consideration. Speakers that sound “good” on first impression may not necessarily be accurate. What you really need is an honest reference for your mix, rather than monitors that have been tweaked or colored to deceptively sound impressive. The new HS series reference monitors have been created by Yamaha’s studio monitor engineering team to deliver exceptionally flat, accurate response that you can trust. Unlike “monitor” speakers with exaggerated bass and treble that make a good first impression but can’t be relied on for accuracy, the HS series were designed to be true studio reference monitors in the tradition of the legendary Yamaha NS10M.

Whether you’re mixing for stereo or 5.1 surround, mixes that sound good on Yamaha HS series reference monitors will translate accurately to the widest possible range of reproduction systems … which is engineer-speak that simply means they’ll sound good on anything. And that is the ultimate goal of any reference monitor. We should also mention that the HS-series monitors not only sound great, they look great, too.

Portable Digital Stage Piano

Korg SP-250 & SP-250BK

Korg announces the SP-250BK, with a Jet Black finish and a matching black metal stand.

Korg brings a heightened level of realism and feel to its line of portable digital stage pianos with the SP-250. The Korg SP-250 provides an expanded range of expression and performance with an outstanding new stereo piano sound, which is matched to a third-generation RH3 graded action keyboard. The SP-250 Digital Piano is the perfect answer for any pianist looking for rich piano sounds and the convenience of a lightweight, portable instrument.

Superb piano sound in a digital stage piano

The robust sound of a concert grand piano has been carefully and lavishly sampled for this digital stage piano. Differences in playing dynamics and position in the stereo field have been faithfully captured, delivering naturally expressive piano sounds that recreate every detail. The SP-250′s piano samples are longer than other pianos in its class. Increased length means the piano sound sustains more naturally, so the piano sounds more real throughout the performance, not just at the attack. Three versions of sound are provided in this wonderful and portable digital stage piano to cover different tastes and genre needs. To round out the piano offerings, the SP-250 also features a vintage electric grand sound, as well as an authentic honky-tonk piano.

Grand piano playing experience

The SP-250 is the first portable digital stage piano from Korg to feature the RH3 real weighted hammer action. This state-of-the-art key mechanism features differing key weights in each register of the keyboard, delivering the same playing experience as a grand piano. The keyboard is exceptionally responsive, even when playing quickly repeated figures, to preserve every expressive nuance of the performer. The Key Touch Control provides three selectable touch curves, delivering the perfect touch sensitivity for every playing style or type of song. Yet, even with such a robust keyboard, the SP-250 weighs less than 42 pounds (19 kg.).

A wide palette of sounds

In addition to its remarkable piano sound, the SP-250 portable digital stage piano includes a rich array of sounds that will extend your performance possibilities. An assortment of classic electric pianos (reed and tine styles), church and jazz organs, string and choir sounds, harpsichord and clav(s) elements and even mallet percussion and guitar sounds, are all available at the touch of a button. Two sounds can be layered together to play simultaneously; and of course, you can adjust the balance to get the perfect blend. To help you audition the sounds, 30 demonstration songs ranging from classics to originals are built in to this digital stage piano, showing off all the sounds in a variety of musical genres.

Dual effects

To further enhance the sound, the SP-250 provides both a Reverb effect, that recreates the spaciousness of a concert hall, and a Chorus effect that adds a colorful depth to the sound. The effects settings have been optimized for each individual sound and the user can choose from three levels – Light, Normal and Deep – to complement his or her performance.

Style and versatility

The chic body design is highlighted by metal and wood-grain accents, with a solid music rack included that mounts in seconds. The control panel is simple and easy-to-use and includes 19 LED indicators providing for instant visual feedback. The SP-250 is perfect for those who appreciate quality in both sound and design.

Full range sound system

The SP-250 contains a custom system, featuring two 10 cm dual-cone speakers matched to a pair of 11-Watt amplifiers that beautifully reproduce the rich sounds of a piano. The bass-reflex speaker system ensures that every bit of the deep resonances distinctive to a great piano will be heard.

Stand and pedal included

The SP-250 portable digital stage piano includes a high-quality damper pedal that is vital for proper piano performance. It provides the ultimate expressive control thanks to half-pedaling, which is a variable damping effect based on how deep you press the pedal, rather than the simple on/off switch found on cheaper instruments. The dedicated stand is both simple and stylish, and fits securely into a recessed area in the bottom of the piano, providing a remarkably solid feel. The stand’s lower crossbar even prevents the pedal from “creeping” forward in performance. Best of all, the SP-250 can be easily removed from the stand for easy moving and carrying during live performances.

Convenient features

Two headphones can be connected simultaneously, providing for student-teacher use or family enjoyment. Thanks to stereo outputs, you can listen to the sounds of the SP-250 through external speakers, a great feature for professional performances, schools and places of worship, and for recording purposes. MIDI In/Out jacks connect the SP-250 portable digital stage piano to a synthesizer or other MIDI-equipped device (computer/sequencer), allowing the SP-250 to be used as both a master keyboard and a 16-part multitimbral sound module for performance and composition.

The Key Transpose function lets you shift the pitch of the instrument to match the key of a singer, or to play along with your favorite CDs. An onboard Metronome is convenient for practicing. You can add an accent to the first beat (with normal or bell sounds), and adjust its volume. There’s also a dedicated slider for easy adjustment of the tempo.

In addition to equal temperament, the SP-250 provides the two most common Baroque and Classical era tunings (Kirnberger and Werckmeister) for historically-accurate performances.

Of the broad lineup of VOX amps – from large all-tube amps to mini transistor amps – the Valvetronix Series is acclaimed by the broadest range of musicians and is being used in the widest variety of musical scenarios today. Delivering the perfect fusion of great tube amp sound and cutting-edge modelling technology, the original VOX Valve Reactor circuitry made its sensational debut in 2001 as the guitar amp for the new century. Since then, it has undergone continual renewal in response to the latest developments in amps, and in order to flexibly meet today’s needs. The Valvetronix+ series offers a larger number of highly evolved amp models than ever before. From the convenient and portable VT20+ to the dual-speaker VT120+, this new Valvetronix+ Series delivers the guitar sounds sought after by discerning guitarists of every style.

Tube-powered VOX Valve Reactor circuit
Every guitar player seeks the power and playability delivered by a tube amp; the fat drive tone, wide dynamic range, subtle picking nuances, and quick response. After painstaking analysis of guitarists’ tastes and preferences, VOX has focused on the importance of the power amp circuit in creating the sonic characteristics long sought from tube amps. The VOX Valve Reactor was developed out of this power amp philosophy. Based on a 12AX7 vacuum tube, the Valve Reactor circuit at the heart of every Valvetronix+ Series amp perfectly reproduces the operation, subtle nuances, and tonal character of a real tube-powered amp.

More amp models than ever before
The new Valvetronix+ Series boasts an amazing collection of 33 distinct amp models – a new milestone for Valvetronix amplifiers. In addition, the Valvetronix+ represents a giant leap in quality. The preamp EQ features Bass, Middle and Treble controls for precise tone-shaping. Beginning with classic VOX amps such as the AC30, the diverse amp model selection continues to encompass coveted amps from the pages of history, as well as the latest high-gain amps, providing a sound selection that spans the ages. Call up the sound of an old favourite, or experiment with amps you may never have tried – sought-after amps played by your guitar heroes, rare boutique amps, and vintage amps – and pursue unexplored sonic paths.

25 Diverse, high-quality effects
One of the best features of VOX modelling amps is the ability to combine the built-in effects with the onboard amp models to create a complete and powerful sound. Just as with the effects, the Valvetronix+ Series makes no compromise when it comes to effects, boasting a level of quality that rivals top stand-alone units. The broad array of effects is divided into two sections: Pedal effects such as distortion, wah, and compressor; and Modulation/Delay effects such as chorus, flanger, and tape echo. In each section, there are 11 effects to choose from. Featuring easy-to-use settings, you can simultaneously select the effect type and adjust its parameters. In addition, there are three types of Reverb (Room, Spring, and Hall). With the addition of Noise Reduction, up to four different effects can be used at the same time.

99 Preset programs
The musicians at VOX have put together 99 preset programs, expertly voiced and ready for immediate use. Each of the 33 amp models provides three presets: Basic, Effected, and Song. An Effected preset calls up the correct combination of effect type and setting for a particular style.

Song presets are just like Effected presets; each one is a faithful recreation of the signature sound used by a famous guitarist to perform one of their classic tracks. Of course you’re also free to edit any preset – or start from scratch with the manual setting – and save up to eight of your own custom sounds to the User presets.

Beyond the numbers
One of the greatest advances from previous Valvetronix models is the astounding sense of power generated by the Valvetronix+ Series. The power amp section has the potential to significantly exceed the wattage value indicated by the model name – as indicated by the shaded section of the Power Level knob. The new Valvetronix+ Series also feature a newly re-voiced VOX original design speaker that is sure to amaze you with a powerful sound that you would not expect from a chassis and speaker of this size. These fine Valvetronix+ amplifiers genuinely deliver sonic power that cannot be expressed by mere numbers.

Seize the power
The sense of drive produced in the tube power stage is what defines the inimitably fat and warm tone that’s at the core of a great guitar amp sound. The tube-driven Valve Reactor circuitry is at the heart of recreating this sound. Volume, Gain, and Master Volume controls provide key levels of controlling your gain to achieve a wealth of clean, overdriven and distorted sounds. In addition, these new Valvetronix+ Series amplifiers feature an altogether unique Power Level control. By lowering the Power Level, it’s possible to achieve high levels of gain and distortion at any listening level. And, as was mentioned above, reserve power can also be dialled in using the Power Level control when you really need your amp to scream. The Power Level control allows you to take full advantage of the Valvetronix+ Series potential in any situation.

Convenient and versatile input and output
The headphone out jack can also be used as a direct line output. This output is equipped with the simulated response and character of a speaker cabinet, so you’ll enjoy the natural spatial sense of playing through speakers, even when using headphones or when connected to a mixer or recording system. Plug your CD or MP3 player into the AUX input jack and enjoy jamming along with your favorite songs. In addition, the tuning function needed by every guitarist is built in, eliminating the need for a separate tuner.

Optional VFS5 footswitch operation
Plug in the optional VFS5 footswitch is connected, and use your feet to switch programs, turn the reverb and other effects on/off, and control their speed, providing additional options for sonic creativity and live performance power.

TC Electronics BH500 Bass Amp Head

Let There Be Rock!!

See what Uriah Duffy says about the BH500 from TC Electronic

BH500 is the rock-voiced amp in the TC Electronics Bass Amp 2.0 line up. Combined with the BC410/BC212/BC210 cabinet range, it stacks up to become any rig you need – for small bar gigs, indoor rock clubs, outdoor stadium concerts, you name it, you got it!

3 Presets

Built-in Bass Tuner

Tone Tools: TubeTone, SpectraComp, TweeterTone

Set, Don’t Forget
BH500 can store three of your favourite tones. Kick in the overdriven tones, compressed tones or just a different tone exactly when you need to, or tailor your presets to fit different bass types. Super easy and very handy during gigs!

In Tune with Bassists
All of TC Electronics’ bass heads feature a dedicated, on-board bass tuner. Now, getting and staying in tune could not be easier, letting you focus on the all-important thing: Rocking!

Shape Your Destiny
BH500 is equipped with a great-sounding 4-band EQ which is perfect for shaping your fundamental tone. On top of that, you also get TubeTone for warmth or drive, SpectraComp for ultra-tight punch and TweeterTone to control the tweeter level right from the front panel.

Backstage Pass – All Access

5–String Bass Tuner
Tune up in seconds. It doesn’t matter if you play 4 or 5–string basses, the built–in bass tuner is there for you. There are 5 LEDs indicating each string plus 2 green LEDs that will tell you whether you need to tune up or down.

3 Presets
Do you ever play different basses – or tunes that need unique tones – at the same gig? You can create 3 presets tailored for e.g. a Jazz Bass, a P-Bass and an active bass, or it could be for Rock, Slap or Upright bass. It’s all up to you, and you’ll find that swapping basses on the stage is faster than ever!

TweeterTone
Adjust the sparkling highs on the fly. TweeterTone will add that crispy edge for modern finger style or slapping, or take it away for a vintage feel that oozes soul, inspiring for classic rock and Motown bass lines.

SpectraComp
Multi–band compression – the musical way to control dynamics. SpectraComp can be subtle or downright aggressive, but either way you get the best bass compressor ever made. Single–band compressors tend to be controlled only by the lower strings, but with SpectraComp you virtually get ‘per string compression’.

Contour
The Contour feature lets you dial in a modern tone with a single click. There are two variations, Contour 1 will take you directly to slap bass heaven, whereas Contour 2 will scoop the mids even further – perfect for modern metal tones. If you use Contour, it will be stored along with the rest of your settings in one of the three presets.

TubeTone
TubeTone gives you that vintage feel of an all–tube bass amp. Rather than fitting a single tube in the preamp section, they designed a pristine circuit that emulates not only a tube preamp, but also a complete tube power amp. Add subtle tube warmth or crank it all the way up for dirty drive tone.

Laney Lionheart
L50H Guitar Amp

“It’s one of the best sounding amps we’ve ever plugged into” Guitarist Magazine Review April 2012 Issue 35.

Lionheart represents everything Laney has learned through over forty years of Laney tube heritage, distilled into a single amplifier range. Lionheart amplifiers are designed to provide the ultimate in British made, boutique tone. The evocative sound of power tubes being pushed to their sweet spot at volume levels that are controllable is a major feature. Featuring the purest of designs. The combination of EL84 (EL34 – L50H) loaded single ended Class A power stages and premium Celestion and Jensen speakers put this family of amplifiers a class apart from the rest.

CUTTING EDGE

The Lionheart L50H represents a significant advance in Class A guitar tone – it’s totally unique. The world’s first 50 Watts RMS Single Ended true Class A all valve amplifier.

TOTALLY UNIQUE

When we say unique we mean unique in the following ways:

*UNIQUE in that it is the first 50-watt RMS parallel single-ended Class-A amplifier!

*UNIQUE in that it is the first to use 5 x EL34 output tubes!

*UNIQUE in that its progressive distortion produces a smooth, emotional response to a player’s touch.

*Unique in the fact that its 5th order harmonic content, makes it sound as sweet as any amp you can imagine, when you hit it hard.

*Unique in that it uses ultra modern transformer technology to produce an amplifier that until today, other manufacturers have only dreamt about.

FRONT PANEL

The L50H features a logically laid out, stylishly clean pre amp design. Featuring a twin channel layout with independent volume for each channel, a shared three band passive EQ, a bite switch, a global tone control and a Dynamics control. All housed in a stylish marine ply cabinet finished with blue tolex and tan front fret.

The Lionheart L50H’s BITE control tightens up the bottom end, giving a clean and clear punchy sound, whilst the tone control works in a similar fashion to the Tone controls on your guitar, except that it works uniquely on the other end of the amplification chain. This gives you the ability to control not only the overall top end response but also to reduce the upper end harmonics on the output stage and preamplifier overdrive sounds.

The DYNAMICS control allows you to control the Lionheart’s low frequency response. Dialling clockwise gives a more extended low-end response. Dialling the Dynamics control anticlockwise tightens up the low-end response.

The L50H rear panel features an FX loop with Bypass/Insert/Side Chain operation modes with a level control, the footswitch socket as well as housing the Pre amp Out/Power amp in sockets along with the speaker connections for 8 and 16 ohm cabinets.

The L50H uses well-proven pre amplifier topology from the existing Lionheart range – but the output stage is something totally new.

The design of the new output section, evolved in-house, culminating in an output section, with inspiration taken from vintage amplification, but with added contemporary features – a massive ultra wide bandwidth output transformer, which avoids adding any unwanted distortion anywhere within the sonic range.

“The Lionheart L50H delivers a totally unique, airy, almost three dimensional, truly intoxicating valve tone.”

THE FINISHING TOUCH

Each Lionheart L50H features a hand stamped ‘build number’, in the order they come off the Laney production line, and comes with a custom made ‘Lionheart’ dust cover.

The Lionheart L50H is a modern classic in both looks and tone, designed and manufactured with pride, in Great Britain.
