Cape Town Steelband Festival 2018

Cape Town Steelband Festival 2018

The annual Cape Town Steelband Festival is aimed at the development and growth of the steelpan (also known as the steel drum) in South Africa. Funds raised from the show go towards providing instruments and teachers to school who would otherwise be unable to afford them.

Where: Baxter Theatre
Main Rd, Rondebosch, Cape Town, 7700
When: Thursday 19 April 2018
Time: 19:30
Cost: R120

Tickets are available from Webtickets
Students and Pensioners can get tickets for R70, but the discounted tickets are only available at the Baxter ticket office.

The festival is a joint venture between the Cape Town Big Band Jazz Festival and the Steelpan Project. Once again the lineup will include a range of steelpan bands from suburban, national and township schools.

More about the Steelband Project

The Steelband Project was set up in 1997 by Liz Brouckaert and David Wickham. The core focus of the project is to provide quality music education to young people. The project is active in many suburban, township and rural areas. There are currently 16 steel bands being taught by the Steelband Project on a weekly basis, with an average size of 15 members.
