Why not give the gift of music?

If you’ve never played an instrument before, buying Your First Instrument can be a daunting challenge. For some people, they haven’t even decided on what instrument they want to play!

These obstacles can put someone off starting to play all together. But, we are here to help you.

What instrument should you play?

There is no simple answer to what instrument you should start playing. Many young school children will start with the recorder, but that is not a mandatory starting point. Even if you’ve never played an instrument before, you can start on the one you want.

If you want to play the drums, then get a drum kit! It really is as simple as that. You should listen to the music you have saved on a playlist. Try to pick out each instrument, and decide which one moves you most.

I started playing the guitar because of the movie Crossroads. At the end of the movie Steve Vai plays an amazing guitar solo, and in that moment I knew I had to play the guitar.

If you’ve never had an AH-HA moment, think about what instrument could be most fun. You should also consider the social aspect. Do you want to play tunes around the fire, then a piano might not be for you?

Do you want to be a solo instrumentalist? Then bass and drums wouldn’t be your first choice. They might be, though!

Ask Around

Your best bet if you are undecided is to ask a musician. If you don’t know any, you can pop into any of our stores. All the guys we have working on the floor are musicians who would be happy to help you decide what instrument would be best for you.

Ok, so you’ve chosen your instrument, what next?

All you need to do now is buy yourself (or your loved one) an instrument. Use these buyers guides to help you in Buying Your First Instrument!
